The social project “Skin Bank. Treatment of Burns” was founded at the end of 2014 to treat deep lesions of soft tissues with the help of cell technologies providing quick and qualitative recovery of a large area of the skin.

Within the framework of the project, the Medical Company ilaya has created the Skin Bank reserve in the amount of 5 billion cells which can be used to restore 50 m² of skin in a short time. This cellular material can be at any time allocated to the medical institutions that are the project partners, which use them directly at their clinical site. At present, the partners are the Prevention Center at the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 2 and the Department of Surgery No. 2 of O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University.

All expenses in the amount of UAH 1,860,000 needed to create and maintain a reserve of cells were offset by the Ukrainian Volunteer Center “People’s Project”, which attracted funds from patrons for this purpose. The biggest patron of the project was the Pharmaceutical Company “Darnitsa”, which donated UAH 800,000 for the project. The project was taken under the patronage of the wife of the President of Ukraine Marina Poroshenko as well.

For a year and a half, the social project “Skin Bank. Treatment of Burns” has helped save more than 20 patients who have been treated of severe burns and wounds with prolonged healing by cell technology. Each patient had severe soft tissue damage that could lead to amputation or even death, but thanks to the project, the patients were timely treated and they returned to their normal lives.
